Burmese Army Arrested 60 Local Residents
Burmese Army soldiers under 138th LIB who were transported from Nam Hkam in Northern Shan State arrested and detained 60 local residents including women and children at Kawa Pang village on Jan 11, 2012 at 8 am. Local residents, mostly Kachins, are believed to be used as porters and human bomb-shields in Kachin battle fields.
In a similar incident, Burmese soldiers under 138th LIB took school children for porters and human shields after failing to find adults who had run into the jungle upon hearing the news of Burmese Army’s arrival at Hka Garan village on Jan 6, 2011.
44th LID opens a new offense
In an attempt to get closer to Mai Ja Yang, KIO’s second largest city, Burmese Army’s 44th LID (Chay Myan Tat Ma 44) begins a new offense near Maru Ying Sau village, said a local source.
