Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS) held the celebration of the 62nd anniversary of Shan State National Day with grandeur at Loi Tai Leng headquarters, Shan State. Over 5000 guest-visitors including monks, ethnic leaders, Shan groups from inside and exile, civilians, officers and soldiers from SSA participated on the occasion day, February 7.

Sao Yawd Serk, Chairman of RCSS, Veteran Sao Pai Mong and some ethnic leaders gave speeches that mentioned on the unity, the history of Shan State National Day and future cooperative actions in the ceremony, celebrated at 09:09am.

Sao Yawd Serk addressed people attending the National Day ceremony, he focused on: the reasons of Shan State people have been suffering under the control of Burmese dictator, the honesty of Shan leaders who trusted on General Aung San completely during fighting for independence from British in 1947, the disunity between Shan State People Freedom League (SSPFL) and Shan Princes ( Sao Pha), the situation of Shan leaders who only paid attention on achievement of independence and not foresee about the future, the current Union which is not a genuine one, about the Union and Panglong Agreement that had been abrogated by General Nay win, who staged a coup on March 3, 1962, the important of unity to gain Shan State back, the wrong action of some ethnic groups demand their rights from Burmese junta, the marking of Burmese junta is the aggressor and be aware of the future Union formed by the junta.

Khun Thurein from Pao National Liberation Organization (PNLO), Kya Bo Long aka Pho Thein Shin from Lahu Democratic Union (LDU), Sao La Hwe from Wa National Organization (WNO), U Htee Saw from Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP) and one people delegate also gave speeches in the ceremony.

Likely, PNLO, LDU, WNO and KNPP sending their formal messages to the 62nd anniversary of Shan State National Day as well as individuals include Sao Noan Oo, daughter of the late Prince ( SaoPha) of Lawksawk.

The celebration was being started with the sport competitions on February 4 and the guests started arriving at Loi Tai Leng since the firs of February. RCSS provided all guests with free food and accommodation and distributed the pamphlets to the guests as well. Shan concert and traditional Shan opera were performed on evening of February 6 eve and 7.

The Shan State National Day, February 7, commemorates the 1947 Panglong conference of Sao Phas and Shan leaders at which a united front against British colonial rule was agreed on. The meaning of Shan State National Day are the day of Shan leaders united, establishing of a federal democratic country, unifying various ethnic states into a bigger state, establishing of Shan State Council, finding the Shan State flag and the day of enjoying freedom and democracy.

After five days their historic conference, Shan leaders, Kachin leaders, Chin leaders and General Aung San signed the Panglong Agreement demanding independence from Britain and then Union of Burma became independence in January 4, 1948.
